Summary

Eni North Ganal Ltd drilled the Geng North-1 exploration well in the North Ganal Block on Friday. This marks the first deep-water exploration well to be drilled in 2023, with a 1,952-meter depth. The well is located in the deep waters offshore the Kutai Basin, approximately 60 kilometers off the east coast of Kalimantan.

Benny Lubiantara, Deputy for Exploration Development and Working Area Management of the Upstream Oil and Gas Business Regulatory Task Force (SKK Migas) said that the Geng North-1 exploration drilling represents a crucial effort by SKK Migas and its contractors to discover new oil and gas reserves, ensuring the fulfillment of the country's energy demands.

"Drilling Geng North-1 well, which is a deepwater drilling, demonstrates our ongoing commitment to optimizing the potential of upstream oil and gas resources, even in the deep-sea areas. This reflects the promising attractiveness of investing in the national upstream oil and gas sector," Benny said on Saturday.
