Indonesia Sets 2026 Goal to Join Elite OECD Club

Coordinating Economic Minister Airlangga Hartarto revealed Indonesia’s goal to join the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) soon. He expects this goal can be reached by 2026.
Airlangga said he had recently met with OECD Secretary General Mathias Cormann. From the meeting, Airlangga assessed that Indonesia had become a key OECD partner. “This means we are invited to every OECD meeting. Indonesia will be the third country in Asia to join the OECD,” Airlangga said at the Indonesia Data and Economic (IDE) Conference Katadata 2023 on Thursday.
The Golkar Party General Chairman said that one of the reasons why Indonesia deserved to join the OECD was the success of hosting the 2022 G20 Summit. This was important because 2022 was full of global challenges, such as the COVID-19 pandemic and the beginning of the Ukraine-Russia war. Airlangga said Indonesia’s G20 presidency had managed to steer the global meeting.
