Kramasan Terminal to Boost Mining Logistics Services in South Sumatra
PT Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI) held a groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of the Kramasan coal unloading station in the Kertapati District of Palembang City, South Sumatra.
It is expected to improve the coal logistics capacity in the province in line with the rising coal demand. KAI president director Didiek Hartantyo said the station could accommodate up to 20-60 car trains every day.
The joint project between KAI, PT Bukit Asam Tbk (PTBA), and PT Perusahaan Listrik Negara (PLN) is an attempt to meet the expected electricity demand of 100,000 megawatts (MW) by 2025. Besides, the station is also part of KAI's program to transport 105 million tons of coal by 2027.
"KAI Group hopes that the existence of the Kramasan coal unloading station will also have positive impacts, such as opening new jobs for the locals," he said.
