RI Strengthens Ties with PNG Through Mineral Downstream Ambition
President Joko Widodo appointed Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment Luhut Pandjaitan as the Chairman of the Indonesia-Papua New Guinea Mine Downstream Task Force.
“President Jokowi and Papua New Guinea Prime Minister James Marape agreed to establish the task force. Deputy Prime Minister John Rosso was appointed [to this task force],” Luhut said on Sunday.
Luhut emphasized that the Indonesia-Papua New Guinea Downstreaming Task Force will speed up collaboration between the two nations in the field of raw material processing. He said that Deputy Prime Minister John Rosso will soon visit Indonesia to engage in negotiations, focusing on the key areas of cooperation.
“It’s mutually beneficial. Poverty in Papua New Guinea will be significantly reduced, as the country with 9 million population, approximately 2.5 million people currently live in poverty, making it a pressing issue. They acknowledge Indonesia’s advancements,” Luhut said.
