TikTok Music Eyes Digital Music Domination
ByteDance launched a music streaming service, TikTok Music, in Indonesia and Brazil on Jul 6, 2023, to compete with US music streaming giants such as Spotify, Apple Music, and Amazon. "TikTok Music will make it easy for people in Indonesia to save, download, and share their favorite viral tracks from TikTok," TikTok global head of music business development Ole Obermann said on Thursday.
TikTok Music will replace Bytedance's existing streaming service Resso in Indonesia, ending its services on Sept 5. Resso users can also transfer their accounts to the new app easily.
In Brazil, a TikTok Music subscription costs US$3.49 per month, while in Indonesian users using iOS have to pay US$3.25 per month, while those using Android must pay US$2.96 per month for the first year.
