Jokowi Relies on Freeport, Amman, and Hailiang's Downstream Projects

Smelter
Summary

President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo ensures that once PT Freeport Indonesia and PT Amman Mineral Nusa Tenggara's smelters are operational, Indonesia will no longer export copper concentrate.

"The raw material will be processed domestically into copper cathodes with multiple added values," he said after visiting the smelters on Tuesday.

Jokowi said the copper foil factory in Java Industrial Integrated and Ports Estate (JIIPE) in Gresik, East Java, which is being built by Hailiang Group from China, would absorb copper cathodes from the Freeport Indonesia's smelter.

"[The copper cathodes] will become finished or semi-finished goods for electric vehicle batteries and EV productions," he added during the factory's groundbreaking ceremony.
