Daimler Up to Competition with Local Business on Electric Bus Segment

Daimler-Benz
Summary

Mercedes-Benz buses and trucks distributor PT Daimler Commercial Vehicles Indonesia (DCVI) plans to bring its collection of electric vehicles to the Indonesian market in 2024.

DCVI President Director Naeem Hassim said that the company would unveil a prototype of the Mercedes-Benz electric bus in the middle of this year.

He went on that the electric bus chassis would be imported as completely built-up (CBU) units in 2023 and would be showcased to potential customers.

"Later, we will begin accepting orders for 2024. Although we have already initiated this project, it will require some time," Naeem said on Tuesday.

In addition to electric buses, he also expects to introduce electric trucks at a later stage. However, before venturing into the sale of electric buses and trucks in Indonesia, Daimler must carefully consider factors such as the availability of charging station infrastructure, battery management, and component dealers.
