Summary

PT Blue Bird Tbk (BIRD), Indonesia’s largest taxi operator, announced that it will add 500 electric vehicles (EVs) from BYD to its fleet this year. Quoted from Carnewschina, Blue Bird chose BYD over Tesla and other EV makers due to its competitive price and suitability for the Indonesian market.

Blue Bird President Director Sigit Priawan Djokosoetono said the company had reviewed various EV models and found that the BYD E6 and BYD T3 met their needs.

Sigit also said that Blue Bird’s decision to adopt EVs was in line with the government’s efforts to promote the development of the EV industry. Blue Bird aims to use 10 percent of EVs by 2030.

“We use imported BYD because the price suitable for our domestic market. Applying expensive price just does not make sense for the customers,” Sigit said.
