Summary

PT Bumi Resources Tbk (BUMI) subsidiary PT Kaltim Prima Coal (KPC) has secured an investment deal with a Chinese company to continue its coal downstream project in Bengalon, East Kalimantan.

This agreement fills the void left by the withdrawal of US-based Air Products and Chemicals Inc earlier in 2023.

Bumi Resources President Director Adika Nuraga Bakrie said that the new partnership with KPC would focus on producing ammonia instead of the initially planned methanol. The company aims to commence construction on the coal downstream project in 2024.

“The capital expenditure is currently under calculation, and the project capacity is reduced,” Adika said on Wednesday.
