Indonesia Exempts Taxes to Boost EV Sales

EV financing
Summary

The Indonesian government has decided to exempt two local taxes: vehicle tax (PKB) and vehicle ownership transfer fee (BBNKB) for electric vehicles (EV) starting May 11. It is stated in the Home Affairs Ministerial Regulation (Permendagri) No. 6/2023 signed on Apr 26.

However, this policy does not cover converted units. Permendagri No. 6/2023 essentially invalidates the previous regulation, Permendagri No. 82/2023. Under the old one, the government still collects EV PKB and BBNKB at a maximum of ten percent. These tax facilities are incentives given by the governor as the regional head.
