South Sumatra to Commence Palembang New Port Construction in September

The South Sumatra (Sumsel) provincial administration will accelerate the construction of the Palembang New Port in Tanjung Carat, Banyuasin Regency, since the Boom Baru Port is no longer feasible.
South Sumatra Transportation Agency head Ari Narsa also explained that it would be impossible to expand the Boom Baru Port in the middle of the city and a densely populated area.
However, the government must still resolve several administrative issues, such as the new port master plan (RIP) from the Transportation Ministry, the permit to use the forest areas, and the environmental impact analysis (Amdal). If all permits are in order, the construction of Palembang New Port can start immediately.
"Our target for the Palembang New Port groundbreaking is before the end of the year or September," he said.
According to Ari, many potential investors are interested in working on Palembang New Port due to its strategic prospect. Therefore, its construction may not need the central or provincial government's financial support.
