Bank Syariah Indonesia Attacked by Ransomware
Bank Syariah Indonesia (BSI) suffered a ransomware attack that disrupted its services from May 8-11. State-Owned Enterprises Minister Erick Thohir confirmed that the bank's system was compromised due to a hacker attack, and BSI's management is transitioning to improve its information technology system in response.
The Financial Services Authority (OJK) Banking Supervisory Executive Head Dian Ediana Rae said the financial watchdog is investigating the disruption of BSI's delivery channel services. She has urged the bank to resolve the source of the disruption and expedite the service recovery.
Despite the attack, BSI President Director Hery Gunardi reassured customers that their funds and data remain secure. "Further audits and digital forensics are needed to confirm the extent of the attack, and we are coordinating with regulators and the government," he said.
