Indonesia to Invest in Australian, African Critical Mineral Projects
Indonesia intends to invest in potential Australian and African mining projects to reinforce the plan to become the center of the electric vehicle (EV) and EV battery industries.
The lack of domestic lithium and graphite production means Indonesia needs to look for potential mining projects overseas, such as in Africa and Australia, PT Indonesia Battery Corp (IBC) senior vice president of project management Chandra said.
Additionally, Australia is “much safer and politically very stable,” which allows for secure metal mining investments. “Africa is much riskier, but the price may be more [economically viable] for our investments,” he said at the Paydirt Battery Minerals Conference in Perth on Mar 22, as quoted by Platts.
