Research: Risk of Ransomware Attacks in Indonesia Increases
Cybersecurity company Palo Alto Networks published research findings that stated ransomware cases and extortion through digital platforms in Indonesia increased by 30 percent (year-on-year) in 2022.
There were 14 cases of ransomware attacking various sectors, causing 20 times more harm than in 2021. "Indonesia is in the third place with the most ransomware attacks in Southeast Asia after Singapore and Thailand," Palo Alto Networks reported on Monday.
Along with this report, the National Cyber and Encryption Agency (BSSN) stated that ransomware and data breaches were Indonesia's most common cyber attacks throughout 2022.
BSSN said ransomware was equivalent to 50 percent of cyber attack cases reported in Indonesia in 2022. This harassment is usually done through phone calls and emails targeting specific individuals. Hackers demand a ransom from their victims.
