PT Sumbawa Timur Mining (STM) hopes to exploit mineral reserves in the Onto Mine area, Dompu Regency, West Nusa Tenggara, in 2030. Currently, the gold and copper mines are still in the exploration stage. This exploitation target was conveyed by the STM Head of Mining Engineering Hendra Sebayang, at the Socialization of the 2023 Work Plan, in Mataram.
Hendra said mining activities started from a feasibility study shown in the form of an Amdal (Environmental Impact Analysis). After the Amdal is completed, the new company obtains permits for construction and exploitation.
This feasibility study process requires much time to define whether mining operations are viable to take into further action or not. "The mineral exploitation plan for 2030 is an estimate. We are still in the exploration stage to continue looking for data," he said. The collection of this data will determine whether the activity at the Onto mine is feasible to proceed to the next stage.
