KCI to Buy 16 Trainsets from INKA
PT Kereta Commuter Indonesia (KCI), or KAI Commuter, signed a contract to procure 16 sets of electric trains (KRL) with PT INKA worth Rp 4 trillion. The KRL procurement contract was carried out simultaneously with the inauguration of the Banyuwangi INKA workshop by State-Owned Enterprises (BUMN) Deputy Minister II Kartika Wirjoatmodjo on Thursday.
In the agreement, INKA and KCI agreed to buy 16 new KRL trainsets and 612 SS New Generation train units for the replacement train unit program between the two businesses from 2023 to 2026. The KRL procurement deal, according to KAI Commuter President Director Suryawan Putra Hia, came after the initial agreement inked by KCI and INKA in 2022.
"The provision of this training facility is our commitment to support the Government's program to increase domestic production and import substitution through the Increased Use of Domestic Products (P3DN) Program," he said in a press release on Thursday.
The agreement, which was also signed by PT KAI—KCI's parent company—includes the purchase of ten luxury train cars, each with a capacity for 26 passengers, for the Argo Lawu, Argo Dwipangga, and Taksaka trains, as well as one spare carriage for maintenance between KAI and INKA for 2023–2024 period.
