Govt Ramps Up Makassar New Port Project
The Transportation Ministry expects the construction of the Makassar New Port to be completed in the first half of this year.
Transportation Minister Budi Karya Sumadi said this port would improve logistics distribution in eastern Indonesia. "I appreciate all stakeholders who are committed to managing and maintaining the port in Makassar," he said.
Makassar will soon have two ports: Soekarno-Hatta Port and Makassar New Port. Budi revealed that, apart from logistics services, Makassar New Port will also have a 6,608-square-meter passenger terminal that can accommodate 1,500 people.
To support Makassar New Port operations, the government is building a special toll road, the construction of which will be carried out in three phases.
