Summary

The Geological Agency of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) identified the potential for lithium resources in the Dieng Geothermal Working Area (WKP) in Central Java.

The WKP, which is currently under the management of PT Geo Dipa Energi, has recently become the focus of the mineral resource mapping agency. "Lithium is in the Dieng Geothermal Working Area," the Head of the Geological Agency, Sugeng Mujiyanto, said on Thursday.

Sugeng said the lithium content came from salt water transported during drilling of geothermal wells in the Dieng Plateau. The Geological Agency estimates that the brine comes from a mixture of chemical reactions or seawater. However, the agency is still further identifying the potential for these critical mineral resources. "Lithium was formed when it was in the sea, or there was a chemical reaction," he said.
