Antam's Subsidiaries to Mine Nickel in Forest Areas

Summary

President Joko Widodo issued Presidential Decree (Keppres) No. 3/2023, allowing two of Aneka Tambang's (Antam) subsidiaries to mine nickel in forest areas.

The decree on the mining license in forest areas, which was out on Feb 27, was specifically made for PT Sumberdaya Arindo and PT Nusa Karya Arindo.

The size of the mining areas remains the same, about 39,040 hectares (ha) in total: 3,648 hectares of which are managed by Antam, while Sumberdaya Arindo and Nusa Karya Arindo operate 14,421 and 20,763 hectares, respectively. According to the decree, all of these three companies produce nickel.
