Summary

The Communications and Information Technology Ministry will block the AI-based chatbot platform ChatGPT. The ministry's director general of informatics applications Semuel Abrijani Pangerapan revealed that ChatGPT is not registered as an Electronic System Operator (PSE) in Indonesia.

"We will send a letter later," he said on Thursday. Semuel said the government would first assess what kind of services are provided by ChatGPT in Indonesia.

"We don't know what category it is in. Is it paid [services]? If it's paid [services], it has to register," he said, referring to Government Regulation No. 71/2019 and Communications and Information Technology Ministerial Regulation No. 10/2021.
