Indonesia to Push Through Digital ID Plan despite Poor Infrastructure

The Directorate General of Population and Civil Registration (Ditjen Dukcapil) expects 50 million Indonesian citizens to use Digital Population Identity (IKD) app-based identification tool.
However, many doubt the readiness of the government's infrastructure to support this initiative. Vaksincom cyber security expert Alfons Tanujaya praised the ongoing shift from the physical ID card to IKD since people could still use the e-KTP, even though they are encouraged to switch to IKD.
"However, Dukcapil needs to evaluate some aspects of the IKD implementation if it wishes to secure 50 million IKD users by the end of this year," he suggested in a written statement on Wednesday. For the record, many people complain about the IKD app, apparent from its average rate of only 3.3 out of five stars from 12,500 user reviews.
