Superbank Enlivens Digital Banks Competition

PT Bank Fama International announced a name change to PT Super Bank Indonesia (Superbank) in line with its transformation into a digital bank. Superbank President Director Tigor Siahaan said that the change is supported by technology and ecosystems from shareholders, Emtek Group, Grab, and Singtel.

“We hope that [Superbank] can provide reliable banking services,” Tigor said in a written statement on Monday, expecting Superbank to reach millions of micro, small, and medium enterprises and retail customers by leveraging the Emtek, Grap, and Singtel ecosystems.

Emtek CEO Alvin Sariaatmadja said having a digital bank within their ecosystem makes their business more sustainable. Alex Hungate, the COO of Grab, pointed out that Indonesia has a large underbanked population, which includes driver and merchant partners on the Grab platform.
