Govt to Auction Off Jayapura-Wamena Road Project
The Public Works and Housing (PUPR) Ministry gradually continues road construction in border areas. In Papua, the government is planning the construction of a 1,098-kilometer road in parallel with the Papua New Guinea border, namely the 127-kilometer Jayapura-Yeti section, the 302-kilometer Yeti-Oksibil section, and the 668-kilometer Oksibil-Merauke section. "In Papua, there will be an auction of the 50-kilometer-long Jayapura-Wamena road under the Availability Payment [AP] scheme," director general of highways Hedy Rahadian revealed in a written statement on Sunday.
In building the road, contractors must penetrate forest and mountain areas and deal with poor weather. They also have to solve the lack of construction materials and infrastructure, further complicating the supply of logistics and workers.
