IMAX, Cinema XXI to Ramp Up Expansion in Indonesia
Canadian movie theater operator IMAX Corporation has agreed to expand its business with the leading movie theater chain in Indonesia, Cinema XXI. They plan to build ten new movie theaters with IMAX's Laser features. The first four new cinemas will be in Summarecon Mall Bandung, Icon Bali Mall in Denpasar, Aeon Mall in Deltamas in Surabaya, and the Thamrin Nine complex in Jakarta.
Both companies will keep building the remaining six movie theaters until 2027. IMAX with Laser provides an immersive experience with a 4K laser projection system, a new optical engine, custom lenses, and software. "In 2022, IMAX presented the first local movie in the Indonesian language, Pengabdi Setan [Satan's Slave], and Avatar: The Way of Water. We believe they are just the beginning," IMAX Chief Executive Officer Rich Gelfond said in a written statement on Thursday.
