Vale Indonesia, Tisco to Build Stainless Steel Plant

PT Vale Indonesia Tbk (INCO) plans to expand its cooperation with Taiyuan Iron & Steel Co Ltd (Tisco) by building a stainless steel plant after completing the nickel smelter project with rotary kiln-electric furnace (RKEF) technology in Bahodopi, Morowali, Central Sulawesi.

Vale Indonesia CEO Febriany Eddy said the Bahodopi smelter would produce 73,000 tons of nickel per year and support the stainless steel industry in cooperation with Tisco, which has a larger market. "We agree to consider building a stainless steel plant after the RKEF nickel smelter is completed. Hopefully, we can go further in the downstream industry," Febriany said on Tuesday.
