Govt Approves Rp 7 Mln Incentives for Electric Motor Conversion

The government has agreed to provide Rp 7 million in incentives for converting combustion-engine motorcycles to electric motors. Director General of New, Renewable Energy and Energy Conservation of the Energy Ministry Dadan Kusdiana said President Joko Widodo has decided that the Ministry will be responsible for the conversion program. "So, the Energy Ministry will propose funds to the Finance Ministry and manage it," he said Tuesday.

The Energy Ministry expects the electric motor conversion program to target 50,000 units this year. The Energy Ministry is finalizing the scheme for providing these incentives. What is clear is that the incentives create more affordable costs for the community, as the cost of a conversion to electric motorcycles reaches Rp 15 million per unit.
