AirAsia Adds More Flights to Capitalize Indonesian Tourism Recovery
PT AirAsia Indonesia Tbk (CMPP) plans to increase its aircraft fleet in several super-priority destinations in Indonesia as one of its ambitious plans this year. During his visit to Jakarta last week, Tony Fernandes, CEO of Capital A - AirAsia's parent company - emphasized that AirAsia always prioritizes its commitment to the Indonesian market.
"Besides increasing our fleet to 32 units from the current 17 units, we also plan to bring in wide-body A330s for better connectivity with Northeast Asia, including Japan, South Korea, China, and India. With this expansion, we hope to develop our logistics and strengthen our support to Indonesia in restoring and growing its tourism industry," Group CEO of AirAsia Aviation Group Bo Lingam said.
According to company data, AirAsia Indonesia flew 3.25 million passengers, equivalent to 23,000 flights with 16 aircraft last year. Seats sold on international flights also skyrocketed 7,397 percent year-on-year.
