JD.ID Closes Its Operation, Bad Omen for E-Commerce?

low sales for e-commerce
Summary

E-commerce platform JD.ID will officially close all services, stop accepting orders on Feb 15 and effectively stop operating on March 31. JD.ID allows all user and seller partners to complete transactions until the end of March.

JD.ID Head of Corporate Communications & Public Affairs Setya Yudha Indraswara stated that the closure of JD.ID is a strategic decision from its parent company, China-based e-commerce giant JD.Com. "This is a strategic decision from JD.Com to expand in the international market, focusing on building a cross-country supply chain network. Logistics and warehousing are at its core," Setya told Katadata.co.id on Monday.

The news about JD.Com's plans to close business operations in Indonesia and Thailand has been circulating since last month. This decision aims to reduce losses in Southeast Asia and strengthen operations in China.
