Here Are Indonesia's Priorities in ASEAN Chairmanship
This year Indonesia holds the chairmanship of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN). The priority of Indonesia's ASEAN chairmanship is to make ASEAN the motor of peace and stability in the region. In addition, Indonesia also wants to make Southeast Asia the center of economic growth.
Foreign Affairs Minister Retno Marsudi said that amid increasingly tough world challenges, a positive perspective, cooperation, and optimism are essential. Indonesia will use this perspective in carrying out its ASEAN chairmanship. With this spirit, the 2023 ASEAN chairmanship takes the theme "ASEAN Matters: Epicentrum of Growth." With ASEAN Matters, Indonesia is determined to make ASEAN important and relevant to the ASEAN community.
In this regard, Retno emphasized that the future of ASEAN must be prepared to welcome ASEAN 2045. In addition, ASEAN centrality must be strengthened to maintain peace, stability, and prosperity in Southeast Asia and the Indo-Pacific. "Cooperation in handling cross-border crimes is crucial, and so is the ASEAN Human Rights Dialogue," she said in the Foreign Minister's Annual Press Statement 2023, Wednesday.
