Signals and Possibilities from Megawati's Speech
Chairperson of the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P) Megawati Soekarnoputri reiterated her rejection of the scenario of postponing the 2024 elections. She stated that the 2024 elections must be on time. "Why is there a commotion now it's not clear. How can the government work well? The election must be on time," she said at a PDI-P birthday celebration on Tuesday.
Megawati also reiterated that the maximum presidential term is only two times. "If it's been done twice, that's it. Sorry, just two times," she said. Megawati then questioned whether Indonesia would continue to carry out trial and error in the state constitution. She reflects on what happened to his father, Sukarno, who was made president for life but was eventually deposed. "Is this what you want to go on and on? Do you want it to be like a continuous trial?" she said.
