The Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP) will celebrate its 50th birthday in Jakarta today. A number of party elites said that the party's General Chairperson, Megawati Soekarnoputri, would deliver a speech filled with political surprises.

Megawati's daughter and PDIP Central Leadership Council Chair Puan Maharani hinted that the surprise could be the announcement of their party's 2024 presidential nominee. "In her speech, she might (announce presidential candidate)," she said on Monday.

PDI-P Secretary General Hasto Kristiyanto said Megawati had pocketed the name of the presidential candidate that the party would propose for the 2024 presidential election.
