Summary

PT Aneka Tambang Tbk's (Antam) ferronickel smelter in East Halmahera (Haltim), North Maluku, will start operating in the second semester of this year. As of November last year, the construction progress of the nickel ore processing plant, capable of producing 13,500 tons of nickel in ferronickel (TNi), reached 98 percent. In line with the completion of smelter construction and commissioning, Haltim Ferronickel Plant will increase Antam's annual ferronickel installed production capacity to 40,500 TNi.

The electricity procurement phase from PT Perusahaan Listrik Negara (PLN) diesel and gas power plant (PLTDG) is underway. The startup of the 15 megawatts (MW) first phase power plant started in Dec 2022. Furthermore, a 75 MW second-phase power plant will start in the first quarter of 2023, and a series of commissioning phases of the power plant and ferronickel smelter will follow. "Through positive synergy and strong commitment between Antam and PLN, the power purchase agreement can be carried out optimally to accelerate the completion of the Haltim Ferronickel Plant construction," Aneka Tambang Business Development Director Dolok Robert Silaban said on Wednesday.
