PetroChina Conducts CO2 Injection Field Trial in Jabung Block

PetroChina International Jabung Ltd conducted a CO2 Injection Huff & Puff field trial at the Gemah-6 oil well in the Jabung Working Area (WK) to increase reserves. The program in the East Tanjung Jabung working area began on Dec 8 and will last for 30 days, targeting to inject around 1,800 tons of CO2. "The success of this program is crucial as a reference for the oil and gas production increase program with CO2 utilization in Jabung working area in the future," PetroChina President Director Qian Mingyang said on Monday.

The CO2 Injection Huff & Puff program executor is PT Daqing Petroleum Services, with long experience in research and implementation of enhanced oil recovery (EOR). Daqing Petroleum collaborates with PT Gemilang Buana Utama as a local business partner. "The application of this technology also increases our confidence to maximize the potential of Jabung working area in the 20-year contract extension period," Qian said.

Deputy for Exploration, Development and Management of Working Areas at the Upstream Oil and Gas Business Regulatory Task Force (SKK Migas) Benny Lubiantara said that the Huff & Puff CO2 injection activity at the Gemah-6 well is a field trial stage as part of the CO2-EOR implementation stage in the Gemah Field, which has the potential to increase oil production and reserves. In addition, the activity is an effort to implement carbon capture and storage/carbon capture, utilization and storage (CCS/CCUS) in supporting Indonesia's net zero emission (NZE) target by 2060.
