PLN to Develop Mataloko Geothermal Project
PLN utilizes state capital investment (PMN) to support the Mataloko Geothermal Power Plant (PLTP) development, having a capacity of 2x20 megawatts (MW). PLN Nusa Tenggara Development Unit General Manager Wahidin said it used PMN funds from the government to acquire 10.8 hectares (ha) of land to add four well pads and one field for the laydown area of the PLTP in Ngada Regency, East Nusa Tenggara.
A well pad is a location for exploration and the placement of major components in a geothermal development project. Meanwhile, a laydown area is a location to place materials and equipment needed during construction.
After the land acquisition, PLN will continue the Mataloko PLTP project to the construction process. The clean energy plant is expected to start operating in 2025. "This is proof of the country's presence to bring electricity to all corners of the country while developing new renewable energy based on local resource potential," Wahidin said on Friday.
