Govt to Trial E5 in 2023 to Reduce Carbon Emission in Transportation

Indonesia is about to embark on a new chapter in the use of biofuels. The government plans to conduct a commercial trial of bioethanol blending with gasoline next year. In the initial stage, the trial will take place in stages. Director of Bioenergy at the Energy Ministry Edi Wibowo revealed that the commercial trial of five percent bioethanol blending with gasoline or E5 would roll out in Surabaya.
According to him, with the ability to produce ethanol and the ethanol factory's location, Surabaya is most likely a pilot plant area for the E5. The production capacity of fuel-grade bioethanol in Indonesia is only 40,000 kiloliters (kl), consisting of 30,000 kl from PT Energi Agro Nusatara (Enero) that will be produced in 2023 and 10,000 kl from PT Molindo Raya Industrial. "The pilot plant plan for E5 implementation is in Surabaya. For the fuel, it uses a 92 octane gasoline," Edi said on Saturday.
