Google: Indonesia Requests the Most Content Removals
Google published Content Removal Transparency Report for the Jan-June 2021 period, which mentions Indonesia as the country with the most removal requests. The Indonesian government requested the removal of 254,461 pieces of content from various Google services such as Youtube, the search engine, and Gmail. As much as 99.98 percent of requests come from the Communications and Information Technology Ministry.
David Graff, Google's vice president of trust & safety, revealed an increase in the frequency and volume of government content removal requests. The Communications and Information Technology Ministry's spokesperson Deddy Permadi said the government would file a removal request for a piece of content that violates regulations or provides access to confidential documents. "Including those that disturb public order," Deddy said on Saturday.
