Govt to Administer Second COVID-19 Booster for Elderly

Vaksin COVID-19
Summary

The government is trying to boost primary and booster vaccinations as COVID-19 cases go up. The Health Ministry allows senior citizens or the elderly aged 60 years old or above to receive the second booster shot or the fourth dose of COVID-19 vaccination based on Circular Letter Number HK.02.02/C/5565/2022 issued on Nov 22.

Health Ministry's COVID-19-related spokesperson Mohammad Syahril said the initiative aims to provide additional protection for vulnerable groups of people, to reduce the severity and death rate from COVID-19. Vaccines that can be used for the second booster are those that have received an Emergency Use Authorization (EUA) from the Food and Drug Monitoring Agency (BPOM) and a recommendation from the Indonesia Technical Advisory Group on Immunization (ITAGI). "The second booster shot for the elderly can be given at least six months after the first booster," Syahril said on Tuesday.
