Toyota Gears Up Hybrid Car Production in Indonesia

Electric car battle
Summary

PT Toyota Motor Manufacturing Indonesia officially started production of the Toyota Innova Zenix hybrid car locally at their Karawang, West Java factory. CEO of the Asian Region Toyota Motor Asia Pacific Hao Quoc Tien said, "Toyota feels proud because the Toyota Kijang Innova, which has existed in Indonesia since 1977, continues to grow from time to time and is now present in a hybrid vehicle."

Toyota Kijang Innova is not only the backbone of Toyota's sales in the domestic market, but it also penetrates the export market to more than 50 countries. "We strongly support efforts to transition to clean energy in Indonesia through local production of Innova," Hao said on Monday.

Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartanto said the Toyota Innova Zenix Hybrid production facility is part of Toyota's commitment to invest US$2 billion in the next five years. This is also Toyota's first step to entering the era of electric vehicles in the Indonesian market. "We hope that Toyota will continue to develop the production of other electrification-based models, be it SUV [sport utility vehicle], MPV [multi-purpose vehicle], and so on," Airlangga said.
