Indonesia Secures Supply of Lithium and Graphite for EV Batteries
The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) cooperates to secure lithium and graphite supplies from major producing countries. Energy Minister Arifin Tasrif said the government had secured the supply of the two minerals from Australia. "We have explored, and we can work together in the future, also with companies currently building downstream industries from nickel processing, we will try to bring lithium and graphite for our use," Arifin said Monday.
Meanwhile, the potential for lithium and strontium content in the Lapindo Mud area, Sidoarjo, East Java, is insignificant to be used as raw material for electric vehicle battery development. "We have done an analysis, but the content is too low compared to the existing deposit amount. The lithium resource is less than 1,000 tons, with approximately several ppm per ton levels," he said. Even so, the Energy Ministry is still carrying out developments in the Lapindo Mud area to optimize the potential for lithium and strontium in the Brantas Block managed by Lapindo Brantas Inc, PT Prakarsa Brantas, and PT Minarak Brantas Gas.
