GOTO to Cut 12% of Employees in Four Countries

The management of PT GoTo Gojek Tokopedia Tbk (GOTO) in a Townhall meeting, on Friday, announced efficiency measures by cutting around 1,300 employees or 12 percent of the total employees in Indonesia, Vietnam, Singapore, and India. Management conducted a thorough review to anticipate worsening global economic conditions.
GOTO's management said these efficiency steps were taken so that the company could be financially independent. "This is a difficult decision for us to reduce 12 percent of our total employees so that we can be financially independent we no longer depend on outside funding," a company spokesperson said.
The company will provide compensation to employees who have been laid off according to regulations in force in each country, plus one month's salary, and a laptop. GoTo has been reviewing this efficiency measure in recent months. Currently, GOTO has around 9,600 employees.
