Indonesia Sets Ambitious Electric Vehicle Target by 2025
The Indonesian government expects 400,000 units of four-wheel electric vehicles and 1.76 million units of two- and three-wheel electric vehicles on the road by 2025. Industry Ministry's director general of metal, machinery, transportation, and electronics industries Taufik Bawazier said that the target could be even higher, emphasizing the government's ambition. "So, if the public or the market absorbs them faster, I think we can exceed the target," Taufik elaborated in a hearing with the House of Representatives Energy Commission on Wednesday.
The Industry Ministry informed that several companies operating in the country could produce electric vehicles. For example, four electric bus-producing companies with a total production capacity of 2,480 units per year. For electric cars, there are three companies with a total production capacity of 14,000 units per year. Meanwhile, 35 companies can produce two and three-wheelers, with a total production capacity of 1.04 million units per year.
