Batam's Hunts Investors for the Health Special Economic Zone
The Batam Free Trade and Port Area Concession Agency (BP Batam) will build a Special Economic Zone (SEZ) in the health sector with US$215 million in investment. BP Batam Director of Public Relations Promotion and Protocol Ariastuty Sirait said that until now, the project, located in Sekupang, is being submitted to the National SEZ Council for a permit. "Investors are already there from Singapore and local," Ariastuty said on Monday.
According to Ariastuty, the SEZ will be developed above 44.5 hectares of land. This area can be used as a center for health facilities, fitness tourism, research in the health sector, to a representative office for the pharmaceutical and medical device business. "You can set up a cancer center, plastic surgery, or a fertility center," he said. Batam's health SEZ will compete with Singapore and Malaysia, two health tourism destinations in Southeast Asia.
