PT Timah to Operate New Ausmelt Smelter Before December

Summary

PT Timah Tbk (TINS) ensures that the tin smelter capable of processing low-grade tin using the Ausmelt furnace technology has been completed and can be operational by the end of Nov 2022. Timah established Ausmelt top submerge lance (TSL) smelting technology for its smelter in the Muntok Metallurgical Unit Area, West Bangka Regency, Bangka Belitung Islands. "The operation of Ausmelt furnace technology can reduce processing costs by 25 percent compared to using a reverberatory furnace," Timah corporate secretary Abdullah Umar Baswedan explained.

The technology aims to optimize the smelter's technology, increase its capacity, and improve production efficiency, safety, and environmental health. Timah is teaming up with Metso Outotec Australia Limited as the Ausmelt TSL technology provider. "Of course, it can increase the effectiveness of the product using a more efficient smelting process," he said.
