PLN, Mitsubishi to Launch Hydrogen and Ammonia Co-Firing Trials
PT Perusahaan Listrik Negara (PLN) and Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (MHI) plan to carry out an ammonia co-firing trial at PLN's coal-power plant (PLTU) and hydrogen co-firing trials at a combine-cycle power plant (PLTGU). Both parties signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Tuesday. "This collaboration is to support the government's efforts in accelerating the energy transition in Indonesia by increasing the renewable energy portion and reducing carbon emissions in the electricity sector," PLN director of project management and new and renewable energy Wiluyo Kusdwiharto said on Wednesday.
PLN and MHI will conduct a joint feasibility study on high-ratio biomass co-firing scale-up for Units 1-4 of Suralaya coal-fired power plant, ammonia (NH3) co-firing at PLTU Suralaya Units 5-7, and hydrogen (H2) co-firing at the M701F gas turbines in Tanjung Priok managed by PT PLN Indonesia Power, PLN's subsidiary in the power generation sector.
