Govt Offers Airport Management to Astra Infra

Waiting at The Airport
Summary

Transportation Minister Budi Karya Sumadi urged the state-owned airport operator PT Angkasa Pura I to invest with PT Astra Infrastruktur (Astra Infra) in managing the three airports. According to him, this is a way of proactively seeking investors to get creative financing. "I ask them to join with international connectivity so they can hold two or three airports," Budi told Bisnis Indonesia, Wednesday.

The scheme is similar to the Public Private Partnership (PPP). This is done because the government's transportation sector budget was cut from Rp 50 trillion to Rp 30 trillion. Budi said that Astra and Angkasa Pura I could invite global players to develop airport capabilities while minimizing capital expenditures optimally. He mentioned some airports that could be worked on, including Labuan Bajo, Kendari, Palu, and Samarinda.
