Summary

Bali provincial government protested PT Perusahaan Listrik Negara (PLN) for limiting the installation of rooftop solar panels to only 15 percent of the total installed electricity capacity. Bali Governor I Wayan Koster said that PLN's decision is contrary to Bali Governor Circular Letter No. 5/2022 on utilizing Rooftop Solar Panels in the Province.

In the March circular, Bali Governor asked for rooftop solar panels installation of at least 20 percent of the electricity capacity in old and new buildings. This request also targets owners of commercial, industrial, social, and household buildings with more than 500 square meters of floor area.

Koster argued that the rooftop solar power plant installation could boost tourism in Bali, besides increasing the electricity supply from renewable energy-based plants. "It's just that there is still an obstacle from PLN because it limits the installation to a maximum of 15 percent," he said Thursday.
