PGE Uses Binary Technology to Increase Geothermal Generation Capacity

Summary

PT Pertamina Geothermal Energy (PGE) is increasing the installed capacity of geothermal power plants (PLTP) through the Co-Generation approach with binary technology. Binary technology is a facility that uses brine or geothermal water to generate electricity by injecting it back into the Earth.

"So, geothermal plants do not only rely on steam, but also hot water from inside the Earth. If this hot water can be optimized, the electricity capacity produced will also increase," PGE President Director Ahmad Yuniarto said on Monday.

The binary technology does not require drilling new wells, so implementation is faster, and the risk is lower. Another advantage is that the construction is done faster because the system is modular.
