Wavin Begins Construction of US$125-Million Plant
PT Wavin Manufacturing Indonesia started the construction of a pipe factory in the Batang Integrated Industrial Estate, Central Java, on Monday. Investment Ministry/Investment Coordinating Agency's (BKPM) data showed that Wavin would spend US$125 million for the factory, sitting on 20 hectares. It will produce pipes used in the clean water infrastructure, management, and irrigation system.
Wavin's parent company Orbia CEO Sameer Bharadwaj expected the construction would be completed in the fourth quarter of 2023. He also revealed that Indonesia's political stability despite the Russo-Ukrainian war prompted the investment decision. "Southeast Asia, especially Indonesia, is a center of stability amid high global geopolitical tensions," he said. Meanwhile, President Joko Widodo claimed that many countries were interested in Wavin's investments. "Once the Wavin factory is finished, we will no longer import [pipes], and there will be plentiful job opportunities in Central Java," Jokowi said.
