Shell Creates Scenario Sketch for Indonesia's NZE Plan by 2060
Shell has created a scenario sketch mapping opportunities and challenges that Indonesia might face in achieving its zero carbon emissions (NZE) target by 2060 entitled "Indonesia: Transitioning Towards a Sustainable and Inclusive Energy Future." According to Shell chief economist Mallika Ishwaran at the launch of the roadmap scenario in Jakarta on Thursday, "The roadmap to achieving the NZE target in Indonesia will require significant cooperation between the government and business entities so that by 2060, such an aspiration can be realized."
According to him, Indonesia needs to change its energy system and land use to achieve the NZE by 2060. This must be done while ensuring the affordability and sufficiency of energy supplies to support economic growth during the transition. Shell believes that Indonesia can carry out comprehensive decarbonization efforts to support Indonesia's aspirations for sustainable economic development. Shell Indonesia president director and country chair Ingrid Siburian assured the company would actively support Indonesia's energy transformation journey.
