State-Owned Enterprises (BUMN) Minister Erick Thohir and PT Bakrie and Brothers Tbk (BNBR) president director Anindya Bakrie have purchased a 51 percent stake in English football club Oxford United. The acquisition was announced at the club's general shareholders meeting, which took place in Oxford City, England, on Sept 27. "We are honored to have the opportunity to be part of Oxford United, a football club with a long tradition and history," Anindya said in an official statement on Wednesday.
Both of them had planned the purchase since 2021. At that time, Anindya and Erick Thohir intended to acquire a 25.5 percent stake each. Oxford United has appointed new management, namely Grant Ferguson as the chairman and Tim Williams as the Chief Executive Officer. Anindya intends to implement better corporate governance elements because, after all, football is a business.
